Why Holidays Are So Important
We are fast approaching summer holiday season, a time to escape from our everyday routine and to give ourselves a much needed break from work and other commitments.
Summer holidays are great in that they provide an opportunity for exploration and adventure which allows us to broaden our horizons by discovering new places, cultures and cuisines. They are also a time to reconnect with ourselves and others and they help us to de-stress and enjoy time with friends and family.
Building Memories
According to research carried out by the Family Holiday Association, around 49% of British people have created their happiest memories whilst being on holiday and nearly a quarter of people surveyed will call on their happy memories when times get tough.
Improve Our Physical and Mental Health
Taking time off, according to HR Director Magazine, helps improve our mental health by helping us to relax which helps ease the feelings of stress and anxiety alleviating pressure and feeling of burn-out.
Holidays also help sharpen the mind and boost creativity. We also tend to spend more time outdoors and being active which improves our physical health.
Financial Planning
We increasingly find that holidays and travel play an important part in people’s financial planning.
It is usually whilst on holiday that people start thinking about how great it would be if they can spend more time on holiday, especially if they are looking towards retirement. Many people consider buying holiday homes whilst on holiday – how many people look in estate agent’s windows whilst on holiday or check Rightmove for that dream villa with a pool.
When we design financial plans for clients, we factor in increased expenditure on travel and holidays especially around the period following retirement.
We also find that for business-owner clients, as they get older, they start to focus on increasing the amount of time they can be away from the business. This may involve working, say, three or four days a week or it could involve a month off in the summer and a month off in the winter.
Busy Period
The summer can be a busy time for us as more clients look to review their financial plans following their holidays. For busy professionals, a break from work means they can begin to ask the big questions:
How do I know if I’m on the right track to accomplish my financial goals?
Will we have enough to be financially independent?
How do I keep more of my earnings by saving money on taxes?
Is my money working as hard as it can be and helping me achieve my ideal lifestyle?
Clients come to us to feel more confident about their financial future and to feel more in control about their finances which leads to less stress and greater peace of mind.
A Life Well Lived
We work with busy professionals and business owners who, in all likelihood, are on track to achieve financial success. However, we find that clients are looking for something beyond this, a sense of personal fulfilment and living a life where their wealth is aligned with their values and aspirations.
