Working With Busy Professionals – Solicitors

Solicitors are phenomenally busy people that rarely work the standard nine-to-five. They are usually under pressure juggling multiple cases and the intensity increases significantly when there are large and complex cases involving tight deadlines or multiple time-zones.

Added to this are targets around billable hours, making sure that Continuing Competence is maintained as well as managing team members, business development, networking and the usual paperwork and administration!

The Solicitors I have worked with often mention that their work may take up a Saturday morning or a Sunday evening or even both but many of them are drawn to the fact that the work is intellectually stimulating, inherently interesting and that they are working on cases that are making an important difference to their clients.

Although Solicitors are generally well paid they often lack the time to attend to their own financial planning.

For example, an ambitious Senior Associate, working incredibly long hours, may not be using her ISA or Pension Allowances and, instead, may be paying too much tax.

A Partner, on the other hand, may be doing bits and pieces here and there, for example, investing in an ISA or some shares without a coherent strategy and any real clarity over where they are heading.

How Can We Help?

Many Solicitors tend to be cash-rich but time-poor and therefore need their financial planning to be as accessible and straight-forward as possible.

We help in the following ways:

Time Management – we appreciate that your time is a valuable commodity so we provide flexibility around meetings. We can offer early morning and lunch-time appointments as well as face-to-face meetings in your office or over Zoom.

Financial Strategy – we will provide you with a financial planning strategy designed to help you achieve your financial goals. This may start out as a simple regular savings strategy to invest surplus income and then grow to encompass school fees planning, retirement planning and even estate planning. The advantage of having a clear, straight-forward strategy in place is that you no longer need to carry out last minute ISA or Pension contributions at the end of the tax year as these are done either at the beginning of the tax year or regularly throughout the year.

Peace of Mind – as a busy Solicitor, your time may be focused on your career and family life. Engaging a trusted adviser means that you have the peace of mind that your finances are being sensibly managed.
